The FBI are in charge of the investigation of Thomas Matthew Crooks, which inspires no confidence. But it does explain the controlled leaking of information to various media sources to focus public eyes where the FBI wants them.
In every article and detail leaked to media, remember the FBI is the originating source. Top men. The latest information to leak out includes revelations that the FBI is going through two cell phones, a laptop, and some USB drives belonging to the shooter.
The same sourcing says Crooks conducted online surveillance of several public officials for several months. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Crooks flew a drone over the Trump rally venue earlier in the day.
In addition to explosives, a detonator, ladder, range finder, backpack and an AR15 rifle, the 20 year old social-media starved 20-year-old, also had air superiority.

Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a programmed flight path earlier in the day on July 13 to scour the Butler Farm Show grounds ahead of Trump’s ill-fated rally, the officials said. Crooks, described by friends as very smart yet withdrawn, began researching the site shortly after the Trump campaign announced the rally on July 3, and registered for the event on July 7, officials said. He visited the farm show grounds a few days later to scope it out.
On July 13, officials said, he returned with a pair of homemade bombs that appeared to be designed to be set off by remote control, as they were fitted with a receiver like the kind used to set off fireworks remotely. Investigators found the rudimentary explosives in Crooks’ car parked close to the grounds, along with a ballistic carrier, or vest, with three, 30-round magazines in it, an indication that he might have wanted to cause greater carnage. The FBI narrative being constructed through leaks, attempts to create an image of gross incompetence as an explanation for the almost-successful assassination. This appears to be the FBI trying to create and sell a, ‘mistakes were made’ narrative. I’m not sure the public is buying it.
